Shame on CNN. I was outraged at Michael Gerson’s snarky comment during CNN’s live coverage of the memorial service at Fort Hood. The former Bush speechwriter and columnist opined that while Presidents Clinton and Bush “always wore their hearts on their sleeves” at times like these, President Obama is more “cerebral and reserved” and needs to “show some heart this afternoon.”  CNN should have immediately dropped him from the commentary for being a disrespectful schmuck. Or maybe they should trade him to Fox News for a couple of future draft choices.  P.S. Obama delivered an incredibly dignified homily at the service, a speech much more fitting and thoughtful than any ever written by Gerson or delivered by his old boss.

As I near my home, I drive by the spot where Chandra Levy was murdered, then past the front yard where a hop-head killed a young boy who was out cutting his grass.  I pull through my alley where an elderly couple was robbed at gunpoint, and park in front of my home two houses down from where a neighbor-lady was once held captive for two days by burglars and I ask myself, “Why in the world would DC Mayor Adrian Fenty want to use his position to jump the waiting list and send his sons to a school in this crime-ridden neighborhood ?” (More)

Shocked, shocked, shocked to read in the Sunday New York Times that Tom Daschle, once nominated but then withdrawn as health and human service secretary and head ObamaCare flogger, is still an Administration insider even though he’s dragging down big bucks from Alston & Bird, a legal and lobbying firm. According to the Times, Alston & Bird represents “insurance giant UnitedHealth and the Tennessee Hospital Association.” Daschle wiggles and squirms, but apparently admits to advising, in words of the Times, “private clients on the one hand and advising the White House on the other.” Sounds not so much like hand jive as mouth music, both sides.

Would that we could end the UNITE HERE de-merger brawl just by saying, “A pox on both your houses.” Trouble is, the pox is on the House of Labor, and at a time when we need extreme solidarity in order to complete Phase One of the Obama Revolution. Remember the freedom to join a union for every worker? A fair economy for every family? Health care for every woman, man and child? What’s this about? It’s about two 1960s boy radicals who’ve grown older, but not wiser. John Wilhelm and Bruce Raynor can’t stop drawing lines in the sand. And it’s time we said, “Enough, already.” (More)

America’s master prevaricator couldn’t resist telling one more Mitt-lie as he bowed out of the presidential race with all the grace of a worn out maggot.  “Did you see that today, government workers make more money than people who work in the private sector,”  Romney told a right-wing group in Washington.  “Can you imagine what happens to an economy where the best opportunities are for bureaucrats?  It’s time to lower taxes, including corporate taxes, to take a weed-whacker to government regulations, to reform entitlements, and to stand up to the increasingly voracious appetite of the unions in our governmentsig.”  Romney provided no source for his false claim about the wages of government workers.  We Googled and Googled and couldn’t find one either.

What a couple of downer days for John Edwards.  First, the union that has milked him mercilessly for years flips and endorses Barack Obama. Then his former running mate passes him over for the surging-now, slipping-then senator from Illinois .  Both backstabs take place just a few days before the Nevada and South Carolina primaries, where Edwards arguably is still in contention. But don’t despair, John: politicians usually transfer only their negatives, and when it comes to churning out delegates to caucuses, the culinary union in Nevada probably can’t deliver a bottle of buttermilk.
